Commemorating Canada

The Canada Plaza of the Visit Canada Visitez trail was officially opened on Canada's 35th bithday. The plaza contained a large map of Canada stamped into the concrete plaza, along with information panels about canada, beatiful landscapping and a large Canadian flag proudly flying overhead. The centrepeice of the ste is the Canada monument which is constructed from 13 stones quarried from each province and territory. The stones were then sent to Sussex, NB where they were fused together to form the beautiful monument and represent the unity of this great nation. As you can see, the sandstone from PEI could not be fused with the granite from the provinces and territories and thus serves as the base on which the monument rests. This indeed is appropriate, considering that PEI is the cradle of confederation. This awe inspiring monument stands at more than 7 feet and weighs over a tonne.

The order of the stones can be seen in the following diagram.
